Have you ever had one of those relationships that was unnecessarily complicated? You’re both physically attracted to each other: Check ✔️ You enjoy spending time together: Check ✔️ You talk on the phone and in person for hours on end: Check ✔️He’s introduced you to his parents: ✔️You’re the only one he’s exclusively talking to: ✔️ He compliments you often for your looks, brain, or personality: ✔️ What’s the problem? He says, “We’re just friends.”
Yet, you know he treats you as a romantic interest but he just won’t commit. The fact of the matter is he’s just not that into you. You’re the appetizer until the main course arrives. You’re meeting his emotional need for intimacy (I pray it hasn’t become physical) but you’re not the one he envisions in his future. Stop kidding yourself and admit you see him as more than a friend and you are anticipating the day when he whole heartedly commits. What if he never does? What if one day he tells you he’s in love with someone else? Are you okay with that?
Your time is valuable and should be only given to the one who will claim you as his one and only. I’ll sign off with this quote:
“Unless a man is prepared to ask a woman to be his wife, what right has he to claim her exclusive attention? Unless she has been asked to marry him, why would a sensible woman promise any man her exclusive attention?” (Elisabeth Elliot, Passion and Purity)
